The National Election Commission noted that as of 1 p.m. on the 29th, the first day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the voter turnout was tallied at 10.51%.
In the early voting that began at 6 a.m. on this day, 4,666,252 out of a total of 44,391,871 eligible voters had cast their ballots.
This is 1.76 percentage points higher than the same time voter turnout (8.75%) during the early voting for the 2022 20th presidential election, and 2.51 percentage points higher than the same time turnout (8.00%) during last year's 22nd general election early voting.
So far, the region with the highest voter turnout is Jeonnam at 20.23%, followed by Jeonbuk at 18.55%, Gwangju at 17.66%, and Sejong at 12.11%.
The area with the lowest turnout was Daegu, recording 7.04%. This was followed by Busan at 8.98%, Ulsan at 9.04%, and Gyeongbuk at 9.11%.
The voter turnout in the Seoul metropolitan area was reported as 10.06% in Seoul, 9.65% in Gyeonggi, and 9.76% in Incheon.
Early voting is conducted for two days until the 30th. Voting hours are until 6 p.m., and voters must bring identification when visiting an early voting station.
