Kweon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, announced on the 29th that the unification with Reform Party candidate Lee Jun-seok had ultimately fallen through.
Kweon, the floor leader, noted as much during a press conference held in the National Assembly in the afternoon, adding, "I respect the decision of candidate Lee, who chose to complete the race."
However, Kweon added, "We will consider incorporating as many of Lee's policy pledges as possible," stating, "There are many good ideas among Lee's promises, such as the national science hero recognition system, the introduction of a state responsibility system for math education, and benefits like attaching pink license plates to vehicles of large families. We believe such pledges can be fully adopted after thorough examination."
He added, "Isn't Lee the candidate who created Dongtan New Town, which was actually created by candidate Kim?" He stated, "Making Kim Moon-soo president with number two on the ballot is the way to pave Lee Jun-seok's future. It's Kim Moon-soo now, but the future is Lee Jun-seok." He further added, "It's the Kim Moon-soo administration that can accept and realize Lee's vision and policies," and argued, "In the Lee Jae-myung administration, Lee's values and path could not be accommodated, as you all are likely aware."
Kweon, the floor leader, also spoke on the controversies related to candidate Lee's remarks about women's bodies, stating, "If Lee Jun-seok engaged in verbal violence and misogyny, then isn't the son of Democratic Party of Korea candidate Lee Jae-myung, who actually made the remarks, the perpetrator of hatred and violence?" He continued, "Candidate Lee Jae-myung, who constantly incites controversies related to family, should step down immediately. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party and leftist forces are branding only Lee Jun-seok as hateful, similar to the past when the Democratic Party dismissed the victims in the case of late Mayor Park Won-soon." He referred to it as "the same stretchy feminism as back then."
Kweon, the floor leader, also mentioned the suspicions surrounding Lee Jae-myung's spouse, Kim Hye-kyung, regarding the private use of corporate cards and their son's illegal gambling funds, labeling them "a true criminal family" and claiming, "If Lee Jae-myung becomes president, he would cover up both his own and his family's crimes."
