Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, released a statement on Facebook stating, "I received news of the Navy patrol aircraft crash in Pohang, North Gyeongsang, during a campaign rally in Siheung," adding, "I call on the military and fire authorities to ensure swift rescue and recovery to minimize casualties and property damage among crew members and residents."
He added, "I urge that there be no negligence in our military's anti-submarine operations and vigilance against North Korea."
The Democratic Party of Korea called for a quiet campaign approach.
Park Chan-dae, chairperson of the Democratic Party of Korea's standing committee, issued an internal notice urging the campaign committee and teams to maintain a quiet campaign approach, avoiding dancing and singing as much as possible, to express condolences for the day.
Meanwhile, according to the fire authorities, a Navy patrol aircraft crashed earlier at 1:50 p.m. in a wooded area in Donghae-myeon, Nam-gu, Pohang city, North Gyeongsang. It is understood that four casualties occurred due to this accident.
