The People Power Party and the New Future Democratic Party said on the 28th, six days before the June 3 presidential election, that they agreed that preventing the birth of the 'Lee Jae-myung dictatorship' which destroys the separation of powers and democracy is the most significant national task.
People Power Party Chairperson Kim Yong-tae and New Future Democratic Party representative Jeon Byeong-hun met at the New Future Democratic Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on the morning of the same day to hold a ceremony for the 'operating a joint government for national integration and promoting constitutional amendment for the 7th Republic.'
Chairperson Kim Yong-tae said after meeting representative Jeon Byeong-hun on the 20th, "We decided to continue discussions to prevent the dictatorship of Lee Jae-myung based on the premise of interrupting and overcoming martial law and to promote constitutional amendments for the 7th Republic."
The two parties stated in the agreement that "the political civil war that has occurred between former President Yoon Seok-yeol and Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung over the past three years has led to the declaration of martial law on Dec. 3 and the impeachment of the president, with the biggest victims being the people," and added, "The simultaneous liquidation of former President Yoon and candidate Lee Jae-myung is the spirit of the times." They also noted, "In order to concretely practice a strong alliance, the leaders of both parties aim to form and operate a joint government for national integration agreed upon by candidate Kim Moon-soo and former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon, pursue a constitutional amendment for the launch of the 7th Republic, and schedule simultaneous presidential and general elections within a three-year term, with the goal of creating a great Republic of Korea that the world envies."
The two parties agreed on the following items: ▲ formation and operation of a joint government for national integration ▲ establishment and operation of a constitutional amendment committee immediately after the start of the term ▲ completion of the constitutional amendment through a national referendum within two years after the start of the term ▲ launching of the 7th Republic system after completing the presidential term of three years ▲ promoting a summit as soon as possible ▲ prioritizing the resolution of regional and youth issues.
Chairperson Kim said, "Yesterday, former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon noted that if Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung comes to power, Korea will become a monstrous dictatorship," adding, "I fully agree. The current Democratic Party is no longer a democratic party." He continued, "The spirit of Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun is in the New Future Democratic Party, not the Democratic Party," emphasizing that "just like in the 1980s, People Power Party and New Future Democratic Party will ally with all conscientious democratic forces to open an era of the 7th Republic where cooperation, compromise, dialogue, and coexistence are possible."
He also stated, "I appeal to candidate Lee Jun-seok of the Reform Party, asking you to join us in preventing the emergence of the Lee Jae-myung monstrous dictatorship. Please do not commit the fatal error of inadvertently aiding the Lee Jae-myung monstrous dictatorship."
He further called on candidate Lee Jun-seok of the Reform Party, urging, "Please join the ranks of those trying to stop the emergence of Lee Jae-myung's monstrous dictatorship. I sincerely ask that you do not make the fatal error of inadvertently aiding the monstrous dictatorship of Lee Jae-myung."
