The Suyeong District Election Commission in Busan is facing controversy over its reversal of an approved voting encouragement banner phrase.
According to the People Power Party's Suyeong District Council on the 26th, a party member, referred to as A, inquired with the Suyeong District Election Commission on the 23rd whether the phrase 'Voters win this time!' could be used on a banner. The Election Commission approved the use around 5:49 p.m. on the same day.
However, on the 25th, the Election Commission sent a letter to A informing about the disapproval and demanded the removal of the posted banner.
A stated, 'Not only did the Election Commission first approve and then overturn it, but it also deliberately omitted the fact of approval in the letter,' and pointed out that it was 'an act that deceived the public and undermined administrative trust.'
In response, a representative of the Busan City Election Commission explained, 'After an internal review, it was determined that it could pertain to election campaigning, so it was disallowed.'
This is not the first time that a 'banner disallowance' has been reversed in Suyeong District. At the end of last year, the National Election Commission notified about the disallowance of a banner submitted by People Power Party member Jeong Yeon-wook, which read, 'Still, Lee Jae-myung is not acceptable.'
However, at the same time, the Election Commission approved a banner requested by the Rebuilding Korea Party that read, 'Coup leader Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment abstention, Jeong Yeon-wook is also an accomplice in the coup,' leading to allegations of bias.
Subsequently, the Election Commission approved Jeong's application after five days.
