On the 15th, the People Power Party decided to readmit former Supreme Council member Jang Ye-chan and former Deputy Prime Minister Choi Kyung-hwan.
Kweon Seong-dong, the floor leader, met with reporters after an emergency committee meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the same day and answered "yes" to the question, "Have former Supreme Council member Jang and former Deputy Prime Minister Choi been readmitted?"
Former Supreme Council member Jang left the party and ran as an independent in the general election after his nomination was canceled due to a 'controversy over inappropriate remarks' during the 22nd general election. Subsequently, on the 24th of last month, Jang applied for readmission to the Busan City Party after about a year.
Former Deputy Prime Minister Choi served as Deputy Prime Minister under the Park Geun-hye administration. He ran as an independent candidate in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, last year with the promise of readmission if elected, but lost to then People Power Party candidate Jo Ji-yeon.
Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party presidential candidate, met with reporters immediately after an urgent press conference held at the National Assembly on the same morning and responded to a question regarding whether Jang's readmission signifies a step toward unification by saying, "Yes. As you know, our party has had many conflicts, and I believe there have been significant issues in management."
In particular, he drew attention by mentioning Lee Jun-seok, a candidate of the Reform Party who was a former leader of the People Power Party.
The candidate stated, "Many wonderful individuals, including Lee, had to leave our party unfortunately while they were growing and developing. Some have emerged as candidates now, while others have left the party unintentionally, but I will embrace all of them."
He emphasized, "Our party will be like a melting pot, embracing everyone with a passionate commitment to melt down the metal to the degree needed to bring about superb changes and cultivate the talents required for the happiness of the people."
On the other hand, regarding the readmission of former Deputy Prime Minister Choi and former Supreme Council member Jang, voices of opposition emerged, mainly from the loyalists. On the same day, lawmaker Han Ji-ah shared an article related to the readmission of former Youth Supreme Council member Jang on Facebook and remarked, "Is this the 'rapid change that would surprise the public' mentioned by the presumed Chair of the Emergency Committee?"
