On the 13th, Lee Jung-hyun, a former party leader who served as the chief spokesperson for Han Duck-soo's former prime ministerial camp, joined as co-chairperson of the election campaign for Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party presidential candidate. Also joining as a spokesperson for the election committee was Lee Seong-bae, a former MBC announcer who worked as a spokesperson for the Hong Joon-pyo camp. The leader of the Big Tent Promotion Team is the three-term lawmaker Shin Seong-beom, who is from the 'Bareunmirae Party'.
The People Power Party announced that it added to the agenda the formation plan of the presidential election strategy organization under Kim Moon-soo, the presidential candidate, on that day.
The People Power Party said, 'Chairperson Lee Jung-hyun initially expressed the intention to devote himself as a regular party member, but taking into account that he is a valuable asset of our party who achieved a miraculous victory in the traditionally weak Honam region and served as party leader, he accepted the position of co-chairperson after several persuasions.'
Earlier, Han Duck-soo was offered the position of party election committee chairperson but is reported to have ultimately declined. Instead, with the joining of the former chief spokesperson Lee Jung-hyun, the situation appears to have resolved the internal party strife related to the 'unification incident'.
Additionally, Kim Ki-hyun, who previously served as party leader, will also take on the role of co-chairperson of the election campaign committee. As a result, the total number of co-chairpersons has increased to 9, including previously appointed Kim Yong-tae, the emergency committee member, and lawmakers Joo Ho-young, Na Kyung-won, Kweon Seong-dong, Ahn Cheol-soo, former lawmaker Yang Hyang-ja, and former election commission chairman Hwang Woo-yeo.
The People Power Party explained that the additional formation of this election strategy organization focuses on five major tasks: revitalizing the economy, national integration, local revitalization, national innovation, and traveling together in Honam, driven by the candidate's strong will, in addition to 'unification'.
Accordingly, election committees directly under the candidate were formed, such as the Committee on Economic Revitalization, the Committee on Education Reform, the Committee on National Communication, the Committee on Local Revitalization, and the National Innovation Committee. Former lawmaker Choo Kyung-ho, former Chung-Ang University president Lee Yong-gu, former lawmaker Kim Sung-tae, former chair of the presidential committee on the Era of Local Government Woo Dong-ki, and honorary professor Kim Hyung-ki from Kyungpook National University were each appointed as chairpersons.
In addition, the advisory and support body for the presidential candidate has been expanded. The permanent adviser to the candidate is former lawmaker Won Yoo-chul, who served five terms, while the candidate's secretariat includes former lawmakers, such as senior political advisor Koo Sang-chan, strategy planning advisor Park Min-sik, public relations advisor Ha Jong-dae, agricultural advisor Jeong Dae-geun, national security advisor Kim Geun-tae, and defense policy advisor Jeong Yeon-bong. Member In Yo-han serves as the chairperson of the Honam Committee, while the director general of the Big Tent Promotion Team is Shin Seong-beom, a three-term lawmaker from Gyeongnam and a former media professional. He moved his party affiliation to the Bareunmirae Party and the Reform Party during the party crisis in 2017 before returning to the People Power Party and also has a connection with Lee Jun-seok, the Reform Party candidate. The spokesperson team includes spokesperson Lee Seong-bae and new 'rookie' lawmaker Kwak Gyu-taek.
In the policy overall department, lawmaker Kim Do-eup serves as chairperson of the National Balanced Development Committee, and lawmaker Seo Cheon-ho is the chairperson of the aerospace industry policy committee. Also, former Minister of Gender Equality and Family Kim Hyun-sook and former Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises and Startups Lee Young have been appointed as co-directors of the Middle-Class Growth Office.
The People Power Party stated that the additional appointments were made for 'the unity of the party and the formation of a united front in the election campaign,' emphasizing that 'it adds to the meaning of a unified campaign committee where everyone runs together.' In this way, the candidate Kim Moon-soo will begin a full-scale campaign for unity and innovation.
