The People Power Party launched an investigation on Dec. 12 regarding Yong Woo-sik, a member of the Gyeonggi Province Council, who has been embroiled in allegations of sexual harassment.
The People Power Party stated in a press release that "Acting Chairperson Kweon Seong-dong instructed the Party Affairs Audit Committee to thoroughly investigate the controversy surrounding Councilor Yang." It added that strict disciplinary procedures would follow based on the findings of the investigation.
That morning, a post titled "Sexual harassment" appeared on the Gyeonggi Province employee-only anonymous community "WaggleWaggle." The author of the post introduced themselves as an "Assistant Deputy Director working in a committee led by a proportional representation chairperson." Among the 13 standing committees in the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, the only one led by a proportional representation chairperson is the Management Committee, chaired by Councilor Yang.
The author stated, "At around 6 p.m. on the 9th, the Chairperson asked if I had any plans and said they wanted to have dinner." They continued, "I said I was going to Itaewon to meet a friend that night. Then, the Chairperson asked, 'Are you going with a guy or a girl?'" They further claimed, "When I replied that there would be both a guy and a girl, the Chairperson said, 'Is it just a hook-up? Since you're not married, it can't be a serious relationship.'"
