Former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has reportedly declined the position of campaign committee chair suggested by Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party presidential candidate.
A source close to former Prime Minister Han noted on the 12th that "(Former Prime Minister Han) declined the campaign committee chair position proposed by Candidate Kim," and added, "I think the person conducting the election should essentially take on the role of campaign committee chair for the party to win the election."
Accordingly, former Prime Minister Han is interpreted to have expressed his intention to effectively abstain from the campaign committee in this presidential election.
Shin Dong-uk, a spokesperson for the People Power Party, also said, "Former Prime Minister Han has a willingness to be involved in the election process," and added, "I think he will be able to contribute with his expertise in areas such as issues."
The day before, former Prime Minister Han held a press conference at the party's election office in Yeouido, revealing that he would accept the results of the People Power Party member vote. Shortly thereafter, he was proposed the position of campaign committee chair during a meeting with Candidate Kim.
At that time, former Prime Minister Han showed a reserved attitude, stating, "It would be good to discuss what is appropriate practically," leading to evaluations that he had effectively declined the offer.
