Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party presidential candidate, completed the registration for the 21st presidential candidate at the National Election Commission in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, on the morning of the 11th. He noted, "I will serve former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo well."
He also withdrew the injunction application filed with the Seoul Southern District Court to suspend the effect of the presidential candidate selection.
On that day, Candidate Kim said, "Candidate Han has diverse experiences and insights," adding, "If Candidate Han joins the party, we will work together to resolve the various difficulties our country faces."
Candidate Kim also shared his thoughts on the poll conducted for party members the previous day. He stated, "Typically, there are more affirmative votes in votes of approval and disapproval. The high number of dissenting votes is unusual," and expressed gratitude to party members, saying, "Despite the complex and challenging situation, even with the strong influence of the general assembly or emergency committee and leadership direction, you helped overcome it and restore democracy."
The People Power Party conducted an ARS survey asking all party members from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. the previous day about changing the presidential candidate to Candidate Han, and the results showed that negative opinions were more prevalent than positive ones. Consequently, the leadership's proposal to replace the candidate was rejected.
On that day, Candidate Kim issued a statement saying, "Due to the results of the party member vote yesterday, the status and authority of the presidential candidate have been restored, making the injunction application unnecessary, so I withdrew it at 9:30 a.m. today." He added, "Setting aside past differences in thought, it is now time for harmony and unity," and stated, "We will create a greater Republic of Korea."
Regarding Kwon Young-se, the chair of the People Power Party's emergency committee who resigned the previous day, he remarked, "(During the 19th presidential election) when Hong Joon-pyo was elected as the candidate, the chair of the emergency committee became vacant and resigned. That is a precedent, but this time the candidate was elected and did not resign," he said, adding, "I will discuss how to address this matter with the party. Thank you for your efforts thus far."
