On the 11th, Kim Min-seok, chairperson of the Democratic Party of Korea's permanent election committee, urged Kim Moon-soo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, to clarify his stance on the 'removal of former President Yoon Suk-yeol's party membership' and 're-arrest' among other issues. He also publicly inquired about opinions regarding the formation of a 'big tent' with the Liberty Korea Party, led by far-right figure Jeon Kwang-hoon. Although the People Power Party barely achieved candidate unity, it is targeting the chaotic situation caused by severe internal strife and rightward shifts.
The chairperson stated at a briefing at the central party office in Yeouido, Seoul, that, 'I believe it is right to immediately remove former President Yoon Suk-yeol's party membership, who committed a military coup and orchestrated a candidate replacement coup from behind, and to re-arrest him. I ask the candidate, Kim Moon-soo, for his thoughts on this.' He added, 'The candidate's decision is necessary, as no one has been more loyal to President Yoon's intentions than him.'
He continued, 'It seems natural to form a far-right big tent in solidarity with Jeon Kwang-hoon, who has shared ideologies with Candidate Kim, and to create a unified new party,' and asked for the candidate's thoughts. He also requested clarification on several matters to be addressed after the presidential election, including the establishment of a special prosecution and court for insurrection, conducting a hearing on 'eradicating shamanistic politics,' and investigating facilities and individuals related to shamanism in the Yongsan presidential office.
He referred to the significant disciplinary actions taken against the leadership of the People Power Party, which pushed for unification with former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo. The chairperson stated, 'We must demand the total resignation and severe punishment of party leadership members such as Kwon Young-se, Kwon Seong-dong, Lee Yang-soo, and Park Soo-young, who trampled on the party's constitution and regulations and attempted a nighttime candidate change, which caused political distrust.' He noted, 'I believe this is helpful in realizing the principles of political parties under the constitution and resolving national political distrust, so I ask for the candidate's opinion.'
He also raised concerns about the controversy surrounding Candidate Kim's New Right historical perspective. This question targeted earlier remarks made by Candidate Kim, claiming that 'there was no country in 1919,' 'nationality was Japanese during the Japanese occupation,' and 'Kim Gu had Chinese nationality,' which drew criticism. The chairperson stated, 'I believe it is necessary for the candidate to officially withdraw his outdated New Right treasonous historical view,' and demanded a response from Candidate Kim.
