Independent presidential candidate Han Duck-soo's camp noted on the 9th regarding the unification with People Power Party's Kim Moon-soo, saying, "The 11th could be a very important turning point," and added, "Today, the possibility of a meeting between the candidates is still open."
Han's camp spokesperson Lee Jeong-hyun met with reporters at the camp office in Yeouido, Seoul, on this day, stating, "I am nervous today. If candidate Kim makes a proposal, I am willing to meet today," he said. On this day, candidate Han did not schedule any public engagements, and candidate Kim also canceled a regional visit.
He mentioned, "I do not plan to suggest a meeting (to candidate Kim)" but added, "If a conversation proposal comes, let's discuss it with more concrete details this time." He responded to a question regarding the potential actions if unification does not occur by the 11th, saying, "We are keeping all possibilities open and doing our best," and "Since there are still 3 days left, and the groundwork for unification is accumulating, I expect a good result."
The spokesperson noted that how the results of the unification candidate suitability survey, which is ongoing until this day, will be applied by the People Power Party is of considerable interest to them, stating, "If candidate Han is leading, we can just follow the party's decision, and if we get a result where we are behind, we will accept it." However, he added, "How to apply the public opinion poll is an internal party matter that must ultimately be decided between the party and candidate Kim Moon-soo."
The People Power Party conducted party member votes and public opinion polls asking who, among candidates Kim and Han, would be a better unification candidate for the second consecutive day from the previous day. The party member vote will close at 4 p.m. on this day, and the public opinion survey will close at 1 p.m. Just like in the second and third candidate primaries, both the party member vote and the public poll will be reflected at 50% each. However, candidate Kim's camp stated that they have no intention of accepting the survey results.
The spokesperson discussed who among the People Power Party leaders and candidate Kim will be negotiated with, stating, "This is a matter that must ultimately be decided between the party and the candidates," but added, "It is not Han's role to coordinate opinions from party candidates, party members, and people outside the party; it is the role of the party (People Power Party)."
He also targeted candidate Kim's remark during an earlier public meeting where he said Han was 'taking a free ride,' saying, "Candidate Kim stated 22 times over 18 days, 'If confirmed as the candidate, I will meet immediately to unify,' was he unaware that candidate Han is an independent?" and added, "That's spitting in his own face."
