Kim Beom-suk, acting Minister of Economy and Finance, said on the 8th, "I will do my utmost to respond to risks and manage current issues without wavering so that the public can be at ease until this government concludes."
On the same day, during the Economic Ministers' Meeting held at the Government Seoul Complex, Kim noted, "Our economy is facing greater uncertainty than ever."
Kim expressed concern, saying, "Along with changes in U.S. trade policy externally, geopolitical risks such as the India-Pakistan conflict are expanding, while U.S. President Donald Trump has hinted at a disruptive announcement." He added, "Internally, with less than a month remaining until the 21st presidential election, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economy has resigned due to unavoidable circumstances."
He stated, "While continuously operating the Economic Ministers' Meeting, the control tower of economic policy, I will ensure thorough responses to livelihood issues and tariff damages through relevant task forces."
He added, "I will quickly implement the essential supplementary budget passed last week to spread warmth in the struggling economy and continue to manage and supplement support for livelihood stability and industrial competitiveness."
The government has set a target to manage 12 trillion won out of the total supplementary budget of 13.8 trillion won, with the goal of executing 70% by the end of July.
Attending the meeting on that day were ministers and vice ministers from various ministries, including the Ministry of Employment and Labor, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Office for Government Policy Coordination, and the Financial Services Commission.
