Han Duck-soo, a preliminary candidate for the presidential election, is said to have scheduled a meeting with the People Power Party leadership and Kim Moon-soo, the candidate for the People Power Party, on the 6th.
According to several People Power Party officials, candidate Han left for Daegu after meeting with former People Power Party emergency committee chairman Kim Jong-in that afternoon. People Power Party emergency committee chairman Kweon Young-se and floor leader Kweon Seong-dong also joined the trip to Daegu that afternoon.
Kim's camp issued a statement that day saying, "The party promised to actively support Candidate Kim, but has not yet recognized him as the official candidate by enforcing unilateral party policies, excluding him from consideration." It added, "The party has not yet cooperated in vital election headquarters formation or appointing party officials to smoothly promote unification. It even unilaterally formed and notified a unification promotion organization that should be led by the candidate."
In response, People Power Party emergency committee chairman Kweon Young-se said regarding candidate Kim, "If you break the trust regarding unification now, it would betray party members and the public, and our citizens would no longer believe in our party and our candidate." He noted, "On the 7th, I will ask all party members for their opinions and conduct a vote on unification." He added, "If we fail to unify within the target time, I will take responsibility and resign as chairman of the emergency committee. Even if we succeed, if that is the will of everyone, there is no reason for me to continue as chairman."
