Lee Yang-soo, Secretary General of the People Power Party, said on the 6th, "Chairperson Yoon Sang-bum was supposed to hold a unification meeting at 10 a.m., but the Kim Moon-soo candidate's side refused to attend, so (for now) the first meeting did not take place."
The Secretary General noted during a meeting with reporters that morning, "The Han Duck-soo candidate's side was waiting to attend."
The Secretary General stated, "According to our party's constitution and regulations, our party's candidate must be elected at a national convention," adding, "If Candidate Kim wins the unification, a national convention is unnecessary, but if Candidate Han Duck-soo wins in the unification poll or primary, holding a national convention will definitely be necessary to make him our party's candidate."
The Secretary General said during a meeting with reporters at the National Assembly that day, "If we don't convene the national convention, even if we select a unification candidate, there could be a situation where our party's candidate cannot register with the National Election Commission (from the 10th to the 11th), so we tried to avoid creating such a situation."
Regarding the announcement of the nationwide committee's convening, he countered, "If we can't hold a national convention, we can substitute it with a nationwide committee meeting. Since we don't know what might happen, we have set this just in case."
He emphasized, "(The convening of the national convention and nationwide committee) is an administrative procedure, and we haven't reviewed the procedure for amending the party's constitution and regulations. I cannot know what measures can be taken by amending the constitution and regulations." He added, "I think that replacing candidates through coercive methods could negatively affect the election, which is usually not considered in normal party practices."
