Park Chan-dae, the acting party leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 2nd that the Supreme Court remanded the case against presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung for violating the Public Official Election Act, calling it "a systematic effort to shake the presidential election and alter its outcome, as well as to perpetuate insurrection."
Floor leader Park noted during a Central Election Committee meeting that morning that the remand decision was "an extremely absurd and unfair political judgment, a judicial coup by the Supreme Court, and interference in the election," adding, "There are concerns that the Supreme Court under Chief Justice Roh Hee-kyun will end up acquitting the insurrection leader Yoon Suk-yeol."
Regarding the resignation of former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok the previous day, he said they bore "great responsibility for openly disregarding the constitution and laws and blatantly obstructing the suppression of insurrection," adding, "I will demand accountability for acts of insurrection, violations of the constitution, and violations of the law to the end."
Park also alleged, "They tried to manipulate the trial results by not appointing constitutional court judges, and obstructed the arrest of Yoon Suk-yeol by refusing to recommend a special prosecutor." He continued, "Evidence has also emerged that they hastily pushed tariff negotiations with the U.S. to exchange private interests for national interests." He added, "The actions of the insurrection agents and their acts undermining national interests can no longer be tolerated," and stated that "although Choi Sang-mok fled to evade impeachment by the National Assembly, he and Han Duck-soo will not escape severe judgment."
The previous day, candidate Lee said after concluding a meeting with workers in Jongno-gu regarding the Supreme Court's remand, "It was a result completely different from what I had thought." He emphasized, "The law is a consensus of the people, and the will of the people is the most important," regarding the People Power Party's call for him to withdraw from the presidential race. He added, "Political competitors may have all sorts of imaginations and expectations, but ultimately, politics is done by the people. I will have to follow the will of the people," while avoiding a direct answer.
