People Power Party candidate Han Dong-hoon noted on the 1st regarding some party members' demands for a unification with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, "For some individuals, the current goal is not winning the presidential election, but maintaining their vested interests."
Candidate Han said on that day during an SBS radio interview, "I want to advise you not to risk your vested interests, but to stake everything on our victory in the presidential election."
He stated, "If there are individuals who think that even if we lose the presidential election, it is acceptable as long as we maintain party authority and receive nomination for candidacy, that is a great illusion." He continued, "If we lose to Democratic Party of Korea candidate Lee Jae-myung, we will face severe political retaliation. There will be no party authority or vested interests," and added, "Let us immerse ourselves and focus on winning this presidential election."
Candidate Han also expressed his shock regarding reports of attempts to change the party name secretly while selling the pride of People Power Party members. This reaction comes after figures from the former Democratic Party, including Lee Nak-yon from the New Future, demanded a 'change of party name' as one of the conditions for a presidential coalition.
Candidate Han stated, "While discussions about changing the party name can occur, that should be a demand from the members themselves," and emphasized, "We must never show ourselves to be swayed by individuals from the Moon Jae-in administration giving orders."
He remarked, "Reports that the party leadership asked former Representative Jeong Dae-cheol, who is from the Donggyo-dong faction, to help unify with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo have not been denied," and questioned, "Who are the entities and forces within the party being subjected to such manipulation by pro-Democratic Party and pro-Moon Jae-in individuals?"
He continued, "I will do whatever is necessary for victory. I am more proactive than anyone else," and added, "However, I will not execute that task if the party is led by individuals from the Democratic Party and pro-Moon Jae-in administration." He expressed that he is greatly disappointed with the current leadership's behavior.
