The Statistics Korea announced on the 29th that it conducted a volunteer activity for 'building movable dwellings' necessary for the emergency temporary residence of disaster victims and stable housing support for vulnerable families at Korea Habitat located in Cheonan.
This volunteer activity was carried out to comfort those suffering from the forest fire that occurred in March and to help overcome the poor living conditions of affected households included in the statistical survey target. Statistics Korea plans to deliver the movable dwellings constructed through the volunteer activity to victims of the forest fire in the North Gyeongsang Province.
The volunteer activity was attended by 10 individuals, including Administrator Lee Hyung-il and staff from the Government Innovation Avengers, who lead the improvement of organizational culture at Statistics Korea. They delivered a donation and carried out timber frame work including the construction of the walls, roof, and door frames of the dwellings.
Meanwhile, Statistics Korea has consistently practiced social service activities, including meal service at social welfare facilities and sharing coal briquettes of love, in addition to building movable dwellings. Statistics Korea plans to continue assisting neighbors in need and to prepare foundational data for future welfare policies for housing-vulnerable groups through the 'household and housing basic survey.' The basic survey will provide data that can ascertain the nationwide living conditions, including semi-basements and rooftop rooms.
Administrator Lee Hyung-il stated, "I believe that the first step to alleviating housing welfare blind spots and providing tailored welfare support for housing-vulnerable groups is to accurately ascertain the actual living conditions of the public." He added, "I expect the main information regarding housing characteristics by small area size from the '2024 household and housing basic survey' to be usefully utilized in improving housing environment policies," and noted, "I will continue to support the establishment of various policies for the public through the production of accurate and timely statistics."
