Jin Sung-joon, chairman of the policy committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, noted on the 29th regarding the rumor of the People Power Party trying to recruit former Prime Minister Jeong Se-kyun that it is "a humiliation and an insult to the former Prime Minister."
Ahead of the 6.3 presidential election, there are reports in the political arena that Han Duck-soo, acting president and prime minister, who is mentioned as a candidate from the People Power Party, is seeking to forge alliances with elder statesman Jeong Se-kyun and former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yon. However, former chairman Jeong dismissed it as "groundless speculation."
Chairman Jin stated at a party strategy meeting that morning, "There are claims that the People Power Party is trying to consolidate candidates by linking Han Duck-soo, Lee Nak-yon, and Jeong Se-kyun," adding, "This is like trying to poke a persimmon that cannot be eaten." He further commented, "As you said, 'It is groundless speculation, and it won't happen,' the former Prime Minister would have outright rejected any contact from the People Power Party."
Regarding Lee Nak-yon, former representative of the Democratic Party and current chairman of the New Democratic Party, and his potential presidential candidacy, it was stated, "That would entirely deny his life and be an outright betrayal of the people." This senior figure in the progressive camp, who served as prime minister during the Moon Jae-in administration, has a career that includes the leadership of the Democratic Party and the governorship of South Jeolla Province. However, he left the party last year in opposition to the "Lee Jae-myung single-polar system" during the general elections.
Chairman Jin said, "We need to watch his future moves, but there are indications that he may form an 'anti-Lee Jae-myung alliance' with the insurrectionist forces." He added, "As you said, you won't just grab anyone's hand. I believe a person who has served as a member of the National Assembly, governor of South Jeolla Province, and prime minister, all from the Democratic Party, would not do such a thing."
