After completing the People Power Party's presidential primary 'four-way debate' on the 26th, candidate Hong Joon-pyo emphasized, "No one but Hong Joon-pyo can catch Lee Jae-myung (Democratic Party of Korea candidate) in every aspect."
Candidate Hong noted after the debate that day on Facebook, "A candidate with competitive power against Lee Jae-myung should become the party's leader."
He said, "If I advance to the finals, I will immediately participate in the grand unification front," adding, "I will meet Prime Minister Han Duck-soo soon."
Han Duck-soo, the acting president and Prime Minister of South Korea, is expected to resign by the end of April at the earliest, with speculation circulating about his candidacy in early May.
If the Prime Minister runs as an independent, a so-called 'anti-Lee Jae-myung big tent' that includes the final presidential candidates from the People Power Party is expected to be formed.
The People Power Party plans to announce the results of the second primary on the 29th, following a two-day vote by party members and national opinion polls conducted simultaneously on the 27th and 28th, each reflecting 50% of the outcome.
If a majority vote is achieved in the second primary, the candidate will be immediately confirmed as the party's presidential nominee. If not, the top two candidates will face a third primary.
