Former President Moon Jae-in on the 25th said regarding the prosecution's indictment of him on bribery charges, "The indictment itself is unfair, but I felt like it was being pushed forward unconditionally in the direction that had been set."
Former President Moon attended a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik ahead of the 4th anniversary ceremony of the Panmunjom Declaration taking place that day.
Speaker Woo noted to former President Moon, "I heard that you were suddenly indicted while preparing your response" and stated, "Our country is confused in various ways, and it's hard to understand as due process was not properly followed."
Former President Moon responded, "I was reviewing records and coordinating with the prosecution to confirm the facts in depth, but they suddenly indicted me."
He further pointed out, "This shows how politicized the prosecution has become," adding that "it seems to be a clear example of the abuse of prosecutorial power."
Former President Moon stated, "Beyond revealing my personal innocence, I will focus on properly exposing the abuse of prosecutorial power and politicization and informing the public."
He also told Speaker Woo, "Due to the early presidential election, the new government must quickly normalize the country, but if the current conflicts and divisions continue, considerable confusion is expected even after the new government is launched."
He continued, "Since the government has to start without a transition committee, I ask that the National Assembly closely cooperate with the new government so that our country and people's livelihoods stabilize as soon as possible."
Speaker Woo said regarding the prosecution's indictment of former President Moon, "We also need to carefully examine whether there are shortcomings in the procedures."
Meanwhile, former President Moon expressed gratitude regarding the 12·3 martial law, stating, "The National Assembly played a really significant role," and added, "It was thanks to the strong will and leadership of the Speaker at that time, who calmly conducted the meeting according to the procedures and managed to pass the martial law repeal resolution that no one could contest."
Previously, the prosecution indicted former President Moon without detention on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes in relation to allegations of preferential hiring of his former son-in-law, Seo Mo, in the Tai Star Jet case.
