The Democratic Party of Korea will reintroduce the Kim Keon-hee Special Prosecutor Law and the insurrection special prosecutor law on the 25th. Spokesperson Kim Sung-hwa noted after the party's Supreme Council meeting that they plan to present the Kim Keon-hee and insurrection special prosecutor laws today and aim for approval by the Legal Affairs Committee in early next month for handling in the National Assembly plenary session in June. This makes a total of three special prosecutor laws the Democratic Party is pursuing, including the special prosecutor law for deceased marine officers.
The newly introduced Kim Keon-hee Special Prosecutor Law will include the contents of the previously proposed 'Myeong Tae-kyun Special Prosecutor Law.' It is also planned to integrate the allegations related to Geonjin Beopsa, who has flaunted a friendship with former President Yoon Seok-youl and his spouse. Spokesperson Kim stated, 'The Cha Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Law has also already been proposed,' indicating that it will become the 'three major special prosecutor laws' of insurrection, Kim Keon-hee, and Cha Haebyeong.
Previously, the Democratic Party proposed the insurrection special prosecutor law, which includes investigations into all allegations related to the declaration of emergency martial law on Dec. 3 twice. However, it was discarded due to the government's demand for reconsideration and the National Assembly's rejection of the re-vote. The Kim Keon-hee Special Prosecutor Law has been discarded four times, and the Myeong Tae-kyun Special Prosecutor Law once through the same procedures.
The Democratic Party set the timing for the plenary vote in June for this reason. As the possibility of the Democratic Party's governance has increased following the impeachment of former President Yoon, processing the bill under the next government could leap over the 'veto hurdle.' Spokesperson Kim remarked, 'There are too many allegations related to Kim Keon-hee,' and they plan to form an investigation team that comprehensively addresses these allegations, along with creating subcommittees, including a Myeong Tae-kyun subcommittee.
