On the 24th, the Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party expressed opposing positions regarding the prosecution's decision to indict former President Moon Jae-in on bribery charges without arrest. The Democratic Party stated, "We demand the dismantling of the political prosecution," while the People Power Party referred to it as "an unforgivable serious crime."
First, members of the Democratic Party of Korea expressed strong opposition.
Kang Yu-jung, spokesperson for Lee Jae-myung's presidential primary campaign, issued a statement saying, "It appears evident that this is a suppression by the prosecution against the former government and political retaliation."
He added, "The prosecution has chosen not to indict Kim Keon-hee, who has clear circumstantial evidence of stock manipulation, while giving up on appealing the cancellation of former President Yoon Seok-yeol's arrest. Such a prosecution is abusing its powers against officials of the former government."
Kang, the spokesperson, remarked, "The prosecution must be the last bastion for maintaining social order. The era of political prosecutions that cover up real crimes and create non-existing ones to abuse power must come to an end," and stated, "I hope the prosecution immediately withdraws any unjust indictments."
Candidate Kim Kyeong-soo also expressed on Facebook that he "cannot bear to watch the behavior of the political prosecution" and argued, "The complete dismantling of the investigative prosecution, while maintaining the right to indict, is the answer."
Candidate Kim Dong-yeon stated, "The prosecution, which could not even appeal against the release of a coup leader, has drawn the sword of madness against a former president after retirement," and emphasized, "The prosecution must be reformed at a level of dismantling."
In contrast, the People Power Party focused on former President Moon, supporting the prosecution's investigation.
Park Min-young, spokesperson for the People Power Party, issued a commentary stating, "(Former President Moon) has driven young people to the streets due to failed real estate policies and only allowed low-quality short-term jobs through populist employment policies," adding, "If he indeed abused power to provide various benefits to his own son-in-law, that would be an unforgivable serious crime."
The spokesperson Park then noted, "I respect the efforts and courage of the investigative team that has uncovered the substantive truth of power crimes through thorough investigations without sacred cows and brought them to trial," and added, "I hope the court delivers a just ruling that meets the public's expectations."
