On the 22nd, Hong Joon-pyo, a candidate in the People Power Party's presidential primary, announced the recruitment of 777 talents into the election campaign committee, including lawmaker Lee Cheol-kyu, who is considered a key figure in the pro-Yoon Suk-yeol faction.
This comes just one day after being among the four candidates included in the first preliminary presidential primary (cutoff).
On this day, lawmaker Yoo Sang-beom, who is serving as the head of the overall situation headquarters of the camp, met with reporters at the campaign office in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, and emphasized, "Although this lawmaker did not take on a title in this appointment, he has expressed support for Candidate Hong from the beginning." He also said, "He will take on a role soon."
The Hong camp plans to nominate Na Kyung-won, a lawmaker who was eliminated in the first cutoff, along with senior members Kim Ki-hyun and Joo Ho-young from the Yeongnam region, to take on the currently vacant position of overall campaign chairman.
Yoo said, "Candidate Hong will contact lawmakers, including Na, who were eliminated in the cutoff."
Yoo noted, "The camp has named itself '51 Camp' with the determination to earn more than 51% of the votes in the semifinals and advance directly to the finals, gathering 777 talents."
He explained, "So far, seven current lawmakers have participated in the camp, and 13 have sent their aides to the campaign committee. The remaining 28 have expressed support, bringing the total to 48 current lawmakers who will join."
He added, "A total of 54 heads of local party organizations have already joined the campaign committee. The most significant feature of this personnel change is the balanced placement of field politicians and experts to enhance our society's future competitiveness by bringing in professionals from various and cutting-edge fields."
Regarding the key personnel publicly revealed on this day, including Yoo and Chief Secretary Kim Dae-sik, the following current lawmakers were listed: ▲ Chief of Political Affairs Koo Ja-geun ▲ Head of Women's Affairs Lee In-sun ▲ Head of Defense Affairs Kang Dae-sik ▲ Chair of Health and Welfare Bak Jong-heon ▲ Chair of Labor Affairs Kim Wi-sang.
Additionally, it is noteworthy that Lee Young-soo, the central chairman of the External Organization, New Future Preparation Meeting (Saemijun), which contributed to the birth of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, has been appointed as the head of the overall support headquarters. The camp expects Saemijun to significantly contribute to the '50% party member vote' reflected in the second preliminary primary.
