Yoo Jeong-bok, a candidate for the People Power Party's presidential primary, announced a constitutional pledge focused on the introduction of a four-year presidential term system, a vice presidency, and a bicameral legislature on the 20th.
On this day, Yoo noted in a press release, "I will become a reformist president who boldly changes the old national structure of South Korea," and stated, "Constitutional reform is essential to create an institutional foundation that can overcome the current unipolar system in the capital region and allow for balanced development across the entire country."
He stated that a four-year presidential term system and a vice presidency, which would not require another presidential election in case of a presidential vacancy, should be introduced. He also claimed that the introduction of a bicameral legislature is necessary to prevent a single party's congressional dictatorship and mentioned that the capital should be transferred to Sejong City.
Yoo emphasized, "The so-called 'anti-Lee Jae-myung big tent' has become a hot topic to win the presidency, but viewing this presidential election merely through a narrow lens of political gains and losses is problematic," and added that he would create a 'super tent' that includes all candidates who can join in the major reforms of South Korea.
Earlier, when Yoo appeared on MBN's Sunday Wide program, he was asked whether he believed it was necessary to expel or dismiss former President Yoon Suk-yeol, to which he said, "If former President Yoon truly loves the party and the country, he needs to make a decision himself."
