The National Assembly Secretariat decided on the 17th to reclaim the space within the National Assembly designated for the military and police. It also plans to report former Director General Kim Hyun-tae of the 707th Special Mission Battalion.
The National Assembly Secretariat issued a press release on the day, saying, "This is a follow-up measure based on the Constitutional Court's clear ruling that the 12·3 state of emergency constitutes a serious unconstitutional and illegal act."
The National Assembly Secretariat had allocated office space on the first floor of the National Assembly building for the Ministry of National Defense's cooperation team and the National Assembly's security forces. However, the National Assembly Secretariat decided to reclaim these spaces entirely, stating, "Although these spaces were provided to support meetings for the relevant institutions and to respond to emergency situations, they have been used contrary to their original purpose, and there have been allegations that they were inappropriately utilized before and after the state of emergency."
The National Assembly Secretariat also plans to report the former Director General to the prosecution on the grounds that he led the act of invading the National Assembly during the state of emergency.
Kim Min-ki, Secretary General of the National Assembly, said, "This action is the first step in strengthening the security and order of the National Assembly, the last bastion of democracy," adding, "We will impose strict legal accountability for any additional illegal acts confirmed."
