A poll released on the 17th showed that 54% of respondents believe the government should be changed in the upcoming presidential election on June 3, while 33% believe the current government should be re-established.
Four companies, including Embrain, K-Statistic Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research, released the results of the 'National Indicators Survey (NBS) Report' conducted on 1,001 men and women aged 18 and older from the 14th to the previous day.
According to the report, the belief in a government change increased by 6 percentage points from last week, while the belief in re-establishing the government decreased by 4 percentage points from last week. The NBS report noted, "The response that the government needs to be changed is the highest since the second week of January this year."
In terms of candidate suitability for the next president, Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party of Korea ranked first with 39%. Following behind were People Power Party candidates Hong Joon-pyo and Kim Moon-soo at 8%, Han Dong-hoon at 6%, and Ahn Cheol-soo at 3%. Reform Party candidate Lee Joon-suk received 3%. The proportion of those who think there are no suitable candidates or who are unsure was reported at 23%.
Support for candidate Lee was highest among supporters of the Democratic Party of Korea and the Rebuilding Korea Party, with 83% and 73%, respectively. Among supporters of the People Power Party, the order was Hong at 23%, Kim at 21%, and Han at 18%.
Hong commented on the results via social media (SNS), saying, "I will work harder on promotions to catch up with candidate Lee Jae-myung," adding, "By the end of this weekend, the primary will have settled into a stable structure, and I will prepare more thoroughly for the main election."
In a hypothetical 'virtual three-way match' where candidates Lee Jae-myung, Kim Moon-soo, and Lee Joon-suk compete, candidate Lee's support rate was recorded at 45%, Kim at 22%, and Lee Joon-suk at 9%. In a virtual match among Lee Jae-myung, Hong Joon-pyo, and Lee Joon-suk, candidate Lee received 45%, Hong received 24%, and Lee Joon-suk received 7%. In a three-way virtual match among Lee Jae-myung, Han Dong-hoon, and Lee Joon-suk, candidate Lee received 45%, Han received 17%, and Lee Joon-suk received 8%.
In the case of Han Duck-soo, acting Prime Minister, there are emerging discussions among some in the People Power Party regarding his candidacy for the presidential election, but he was not included in the survey of presidential candidates.
Public support for political parties was reported as follows: Democratic Party of Korea 37%, People Power Party 30%. Rebuilding Korea Party support was at 7%, and the Reform Party at 3%. Compared to last week's political party support, the Democratic Party of Korea gained 3 percentage points, while the People Power Party lost 3 percentage points.
The NBS survey was conducted through telephone interviews using virtual numbers (100%), with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. The response rate was 23.2%. For more detailed information, refer to the Central Election Survey Deliberation Committee website.
