Shin Sang-mok, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, and Scott Vessent, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, are expected to meet next week in the United States to discuss trade issues, the Ministry of Economy and Finance announced on 16th.
Kang Young-kyu, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Economy and Finance, noted that the U.S. Treasury Department has proposed a meeting with Secretary Vessent on trade issues during Deputy Prime Minister Shin's visit to the U.S. next week, and that they are currently coordinating specific attendees and schedules.
Deputy Prime Minister Shin is scheduled to visit the United States on the 22nd to attend the Group of Twenty Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meetings.
This is the first time the U.S. Trump administration has proposed a ministerial-level meeting on trade issues since implementing its tariff policy.
Secretary Vessent oversees tariff and trade negotiations for the Trump administration. In an interview with Bloomberg TV on 14th (local time), Secretary Vessent indicated that negotiations with South Korea will progress quickly next week.
