Kim Jong Un, Chairperson of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, attended the completion ceremony of the third phase in the Hwaseong District, one of the 'New Town' areas in Pyongyang, on the 15th, which is the birthday of Chairman Kim Il Sung (Taeyang Day), showing his efforts to care for the people's lives.
The Korean Central News Agency reported on the 16th that the completion ceremony for 10,000 dwellings in the third phase of the Hwaseong District was held the day before. The ceremony was attended by Kim, along with Premier Pak Tae Song, Kim Duk Hoon, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party, major party and government officials, workers, builders, and laborers from Pyongyang.
The news agency reported that Kim said, "I feel sorry that we are finally able to provide such modern dwellings, and seeing the citizens filled with emotion and joy today makes me more determined to take on more work for the people."
North Korea announced at the 8th Workers' Party Congress in January 2021 a plan to build a total of 50,000 dwellings in Pyongyang over five years, with 10,000 units constructed each year, completing Songhwa Street the following year. Subsequently, 10,000 dwellings in the first and second phases of the Hwaseong District were completed in 2023 and 2024, respectively, and now the third phase of 10,000 dwellings has been completed.
Kim has consistently attended the construction site of the 50,000 dwellings in Pyongyang, showing his affection for the project.
This marks the fourth visit he has made to the Hwaseong District construction site, following the groundbreaking ceremony last year and site inspections in March and April.
Choosing the date of the completion ceremony for the third phase of the Hwaseong District on the birthday of Chairman Kim Il Sung, the biggest holiday, is interpreted as a measure to maximize the effect of consolidating the regime and soothing public sentiment.
The news agency reported in March that Kim instructed to grandly organize the completion ceremony ahead of the national biggest festive day, Taeyang Day.
