Former Democratic Party of Korea leader Lee Jae-myung's fundraising committee filled its legal limit for donations within a day and closed the fundraising.
The Lee Jae-myung campaign noted on the 16th, "On the day of the fundraising kick-off, 10 a.m. on April 15, the legal limit of 2.94 billion won was fully reached." The total number of donors was over 63,000, double the level of donors (over 31,000) who participated during the two months of the 2022 presidential election.
The Lee Jae-myung campaign explained, "99% of the donors were counted as small donations of less than 100,000 won," adding, "Despite the bank's deposit limit setting, there were instances where over 250 million won was deposited in excess."
It emphasized, "This can be interpreted as a result of many citizens responding to the willingness to quickly restore daily life and create a new Korea, along with the 'K-initiative' expressed by Lee Jae-myung, leading to a 'real Korea' vision that leads the world."
The former leader also said on Facebook that day, "We filled the fundraising amount in just one day. I bow my head in gratitude to the over 63,000 comrades who shared this purpose, and now together with the great people of the real Korea, I will make it happen."
