The People Power Party and the Democratic Party of Korea have entered the primary for the 21st presidential election, showcasing videos that utilize memes to capture the attention of young voters.
On the 16th, a video titled "Nani gasuki? (What do you like? in Japanese) Ahn Cheol-soo!" was uploaded to the official YouTube channel of Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the People Power Party. The lyrics of a performance video from "Love Live" were parodied. The lyrics included lines like, "People's champ~ (Yes!) What do you like? More than choco mint, it's Ahn Cheol-soo," and "20s and 30s champ~ (Yes!) What do you like? More than strawberry flavor, it's Ahn Cheol-soo."
"Love Live" is about nine girls forming an idol group to save a school on the brink of closure, and it has expanded from animation and games to music releases. In particular, a live video of a performance in Yokohama of the song "I♡Scream!" sung by the voice actors from "Love Live" utilized by Ahn's YouTube account has recently gained popularity.
Kim Dong-yeon, governor of Gyeonggi Province, also declared his candidacy for the presidential election, posting a video on social media (SNS) titled "AI (artificial intelligence) hegemony war, are you ready to win? Let's level up as an AI powerhouse!"
In the video, Governor Kim says, "While the whole world is leveling up to win the AI war, we are still unarmed," adding, "For AI transformation, let's start the awakening quest now." He then sees his AI-related policies added in as he transforms into the superhero "Iron Man."
As the primaries commence, the campaigns for the presidency are expected to be intense. In the People Power Party primaries, prominent candidates include Ahn Cheol-soo, former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo, Representative Na Kyung-won, former Representative Yang Hyang-ja, Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok, Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheol-woo, former leader Han Dong-hoon, and former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo (in alphabetical order).
In the Democratic Party of Korea primaries, prominent candidates include Governor Kim, former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyeong-soo, and former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung.
