The ruling party's Chairperson Kwon Young-se said on the 14th, "Former representative Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party should immediately halt the anti-national policies that utilize even tariff wars as a subject of political conflict and collaborate on bipartisan diplomacy."
Chairperson Kwon noted at the party's emergency committee meeting that "the public and corporations are barely wiping away their anxious hearts, yet the Democratic Party is ignoring national interests with an amoeba-level mindset, thinking that 'if Acting Prime Minister Han Duck-soo does well, Lee Jae-myung's support will drop.'"
He said, "On the 7th, former representative Lee raised his voice regarding the United States' reciprocal tariff policy, saying, 'The government response is insufficient; present a plan; I will fully support you.' However, just one day later, after an acting authority talked with U.S. President Donald Trump and began discussions on cooperation regarding tariffs and bilateral issues, his attitude changed 180 degrees."
He added, "The Democratic Party presented baseless conspiracy theories, saying, '(Acting Prime Minister Han) has conceded to all of America's demands,' and issued frontal criticisms stating, 'He started campaign businesses even selling the Trump currency' and 'He profits from selling national interests.'"
Chairperson Kwon stated, "If petty politics blind to vote counting hinders diplomacy, it acknowledges that one does not even deserve to be a politician, let alone a president." He also noted, "Although the urgent fire has been extinguished due to the U.S. reciprocal tariff suspension, anxiety among corporations and the economy remains significant," urging that "the government, National Assembly, public, and private sectors must immediately activate a national response system."
Some observers predict that Acting Prime Minister Han will unify with the People Power Party candidate after running as an independent in the presidential election. In relation to this, after the emergency committee meeting that day, Chief Spokesperson Shin Dong-wook told reporters, "It is inappropriate for the party leadership to mention a specific candidate," adding, "The individual will decide how to proceed."
Chief Spokesperson Shin also said regarding reports that an emergency committee meeting planned to urge Acting Prime Minister Han's candidacy was suppressed by the leadership that, "I don’t know well," but added, "The party leadership may have judged that such a press conference is inappropriate during the primary phase," and stated, "The party leadership is committed to avoiding anything that could hinder a fair primary during the most critical times."
