Former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung will visit an artificial intelligence (AI) startup as his first schedule after declaring his candidacy for the 21st presidential election. This visit aims to propose a vision and policies for the AI industry as part of his emphasized commitment to economic growth.
Kang Yu-jung, spokesperson for Lee Jae-myung's camp, announced on the 13th that the former leader will visit the startup Furiosa AI located in Gangnam, Seoul, on the morning of the 14th.
Kang said, "Lee Jae-myung, the presumptive candidate, will conduct a growth economy initiative as his first official schedule after the declaration of candidacy," and added, "He will visit a site to break NVIDIA's monopoly in the global AI semiconductor market and present a vision and support policies that Korea can lead the world in the AI industry."
This site visit will include Yoon Hu-deok, head of the policy headquarters for Lee Jae-myung's camp, Lee Hae-sik, head of the secretariat, and Kim Tae-sun, head of the execution team. Furiosa AI is expected to have representatives and researchers, including CEO Baek Jun-ho, attend the visit.
Former leader Lee is expected to emphasize the necessity of state-led investments in advanced industries during his visit to Furiosa AI. Previously, in a video for his candidacy announcement, he stated, "Investments in advanced science and technology are crucial, but the level of science and technology has risen so high that individual corporations cannot handle it."
Furiosa AI is a domestic fabless (semiconductor design-specialized corporation) that is developing a neural processing unit (NPU) specialized for AI computations. It is also known that Furiosa AI rejected acquisition offers from major U.S. tech companies such as Meta.
