The Democratic Party of Korea will select its presidential candidate through a vote of party members and a public opinion poll.
According to the Democratic Party on the 12th, the party's special regulations preparation committee decided to establish special regulations concerning the election of candidates for the 21st presidential election, with 50% of the vote coming from party members and 50% from public opinion polls.
The decision to adopt a general opinion poll, rather than the election committee vote used in the previous primary, is due to concerns within the party that external forces, such as specific religious groups, could interfere and engage in organized 'strategic voting.'
The regulations preparation committee reported the contents of the special regulations to the closed supreme committee meeting and the general assembly held in the afternoon, and the supreme committee will convene the party affairs committee and central committee to finalize the process of establishing the special regulations.
The non-mainstream faction (anti-Lee Jae-myung) has been demanding an open primary system that does not distinguish between party members and the general public, citing that candidate Lee Jae-myung had held control over the party during his leadership, but this demand has not been accepted.
