The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) reported that a wildfire of unknown origin occurred in the front-line Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and that firefighting efforts are underway as of 11th.
The JCS stated that a wildfire of unknown cause broke out around 4:30 p.m. on 10th in the DMZ area of Goseong, Gangwon Province, and firefighting efforts have been ongoing since 6:30 a.m. on 11th, with two helicopters from the Korea Forest Service deployed.
So far, there have been no casualties or damage to facilities, and firefighting efforts south of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) are proceeding smoothly.
Prior to deploying helicopters, the JCS conducted a broadcast to the North.
A JCS official said, "The military is keeping a close watch on North Korean developments and maintaining readiness."
