Former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn announced on the morning of the 9th at a campaign office in Yongsan, Seoul, that he is leaving the People Power Party and will run as an independent in the presidential election. He also mentioned that former President Yoon Suk-yeol sent a message of support for his independent candidacy.

Hwang, the former Prime Minister, has participated as a representative of the anti-impeachment camp against former President Yoon in the impeachment trial legal team.

He set the slogan: "I will rectify the fraudulent election and revive free South Korea." He also emphasized that only the true right-wing can achieve this.

Hwang, who has served as party leader, emphasized the reason for his departure, stating, "This party cannot reflect the people's anger and cannot win," and he added, "To save the country, I will walk the path of victory together with the people."

The press conference attracted attention as former People Power Party lawmaker Min Kyung-wook and lawyer Seo Seok-gu attended. Dozens of right-wing YouTubers gathered to livestream Hwang’s press conference.

Hwang emphasized that given the characteristics of this presidential election, where a new government is set to launch without a presidential transition committee, he is the right person for the job as someone who has "done it all."

He said, "I have experience as Minister of Justice, Prime Minister, Acting President, and party leader," and emphasized, "During the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye, I managed the national crisis situation as Acting President and protected the shaky South Korea."
