Kwon Young-se, the chairman of the People Power Party's emergency response committee, said on the 4th that following the Constitutional Court's decision to remove President Yoon Suk-yeol, "It is unfortunate, but the People Power Party takes the Constitutional Court's decision seriously and humbly accepts it."
Chairman Kwon issued a statement immediately after the Constitutional Court's ruling, noting, "There may be differences in thoughts and positions, but the Constitutional Court's judgment is a final decision made within the constitutional order. We firmly believe that respecting this decision is the way to uphold democracy and the rule of law."
Chairman Kwon stated, "I believe this is a process of our society taking another step toward becoming a mature democratic nation," and added, "Above all, I sincerely apologize to the people. I deeply feel responsible for not fulfilling our role as the ruling party."
He also reflected, "In a situation where the Democratic Party has dominated the National Assembly, we also acknowledge our failure to properly prevent repeated parliamentary overreach and political excesses," adding, "We are heavily aware of the anger and pain many citizens must have felt due to this incident." He remarked, "I will accept all the criticism and reprimands the citizens have given."
Additionally, he urged an end to division and conflict, calling for a path toward unity.
He emphasized, "Our society is facing another major crossroads. Under no circumstances should there be violence or extreme actions. We must overcome this crisis in peace and order," further stating, "We must stop division and conflict and move toward healing and the recovery of community. I believe that is the true way to serve the president and the country."
He continued, "Above all, stabilizing the government is crucial. The People Power Party will fulfill our constitutional duties to restore order from chaos and ensure that the president's acting authority operates stably."
Finally, he stated, "The essence of politics is to serve the people," affirming, "Even in this unprecedented crisis, I will do everything to ensure that the People Power Party can be a pillar of the nation."
