In the re-election for the Busan Education Superintendent held on the 2nd, candidate Kim Seok-jun, the single candidate from the progressive camp, was elected.
Candidate Kim confirmed their election with a vote of 52.11% as of midnight on the 3rd (with a vote counting rate of 81.73%). Conservative camp candidate Jeong Seung-yun received 39.4%, and candidate Choi Yoon-hong received 8.47%.
Candidate Kim had higher recognition than the other two candidates due to serving as re-elected education superintendent for eight years from July 2014 to June 2022. Additionally, the early withdrawal of former Pusan National University President Cha Jeong-in, who had declared their candidacy as a preliminary candidate, helped to unify the progressive camp, which was also considered a factor in the victory.
The elected candidate Kim pledged to fully support private kindergarten educational expenses, provide 300,000 won for elementary school entrance preparation, ensure education without learning gaps, and support school bus services.
