Park Hong-geun, a lawmaker of the Democratic Party, said on the 1st regarding the impeachment ruling of President Yoon Suk Yeol, “The Democratic Party, along with the opposition and civil society organizations, must officially declare that we cannot accept the dismissal of the Yoon Suk Yeol impeachment.” He noted that if the Constitutional Court dismisses or throws out the impeachment trial of President Yoon, all opposition lawmakers should launch a movement of noncompliance with the ruling.
On the same day, the lawmaker wrote on Facebook, “Let’s put an end to the unconstitutional relay as a declaration of noncompliance and resistance against the unjust ruling.” He added, “The fact that (acting President Han Duck-soo) still has not appointed Justice Ma Eun-hyuk is undeniably a violation of the Constitution, a deliberate destruction of the constitutional order, and a malicious abuse of power,” stating, “As the sovereign people, we have no choice but to resist the unjust ruling of the Constitutional Court.”
He further stated, “As a member of the National Assembly who has a duty to uphold the Constitution, I cannot accept this more than anyone else,” adding, “Let’s stop the dangerous unpatriotic unconstitutional relay with the power of the sovereign by publicly declaring the people's movement of noncompliance and resistance in advance.”
Although there have been many demands within the Democratic Party for the impeachment trial of the president, this is the first time that a lawmaker publicly warned of 'noncompliance with the ruling.' Park is a four-term senior member who served as the floor leader of the Democratic Party in the 21st National Assembly.
The Constitutional Court will announce its decision regarding President Yoon's impeachment on the morning of the 4th at 11 a.m. If six or more justices support impeachment, President Yoon will be immediately dismissed. Conversely, if less than six justices support impeachment, President Yoon will return to his duties.
