As the damage from the wildfire increases, centered in North Gyeongsang Province and South Gyeongsang Province, the National Assembly decided to delay the plenary session and prepare disaster measures.
On the 26th, National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik decided to postpone the plenary session scheduled for the next day at the request of both ruling and opposition parties. This was in response to a request from lawmakers from the People Power Party, who are from the North Gyeongsang Province region, to delay the plenary session.
It is reported that the Democratic Party of Korea expressed agreement that the wildfire damage situation is serious. Accordingly, the impeachment motion against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok, which the opposition was pursuing, has also been postponed.
Currently, no schedule for the plenary session has been set. Political circles are predicting that the plenary session will be held on the 1st or 2nd of next month.
The People Power Party requested all lawmakers from the Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province (TK) and Busan and South Gyeongsang Province (PK) constituencies to visit the affected areas. The party has also formed a special committee for wildfire disaster response.
On this day, Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung went to Andong to visit evacuation facilities for disaster victims. He plans to stay until the next day to assess the damage situation.
Meanwhile, the wildfire that started on the 22nd in Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province, spread to seven nearby cities and counties, burning an area 100 times that of Yeouido. In the process, more than 20 people were reported injured.
