Kwon Young-se, the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson of the People Power Party, suggested on the 26th a ‘bipartisan committee for overcoming national disasters’ to discuss recovery from the large wildfires occurring nationwide and measures to prevent their recurrence.
The Chairperson issued an ‘urgent message to the public’ that day, mentioning the wildfires occurring across the country, stating, “There can be no political confrontation in the face of the lives and safety of the people. Political strife must stop” and emphasized, “The government, local governments, and all political parties must join forces.”
He then said, “I appeal to the Democratic Party to halt political conflict and propose a bipartisan committee for overcoming national disasters for recovery and prevention of further incidents.”
The Chairperson also emphasized, “The People Power Party will take the lead. I will do everything possible for the recovery of the wildfire-affected areas and support for victims. I will lead efforts for necessary legislation, budget support, and policy formulation, and approach with a responsible attitude to ensure close cooperation between the central and local governments.”
He urged lawmakers and heads of local party organizations, saying, “Please engage with residents in each region and take the lead in practical recovery efforts and support.”
He added, “In the process of overcoming the disaster, I will not calculate any political advantages or disadvantages. I will focus solely on the people, concentrating on safeguarding their lives and properties,” and emphasized, “I will do my utmost to ensure that such tragedies do not happen again by further refining and strengthening wildfire prevention and response systems.”
