Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 26th, “I strongly urge that the date for the ruling in the impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk-yeol be set today.”
Park noted that on the morning of the same day, in front of the main gate of the Constitutional Court in Seoul, he held a press conference for the Democratic Party of Korea urging the quick removal of the insurrectionist Yoon Suk-yeol and stated, “The Constitutional Court must not betray the trust of the people.”
He pointed out, “It has been 30 days since the proceedings of the impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk-yeol at the Constitutional Court concluded,” adding, “As of now, 114 days since the outbreak of the insurrection and 103 days since the impeachment motion was passed, the Constitutional Court has yet to issue a ruling.”
He further criticized, “The Constitutional Court, a product of the 1987 democratization movement, was born to fulfill its duty of upholding the Constitution. Its silence, which seems to have forgotten its reason for existence, is causing the far-right forces to rise and delaying the restoration of the broken constitutional order.”
Park reiterated his call for the Constitutional Court to expedite the impeachment trial of President Yoon. He emphasized that “the longer the silence continues, the more the trust and authority in the Constitutional Court will be damaged,” and urged, “The Constitutional Court must respond to the people's questions by designating the date for the trial today.”
He added, “Delayed justice is not justice but injustice,” saying, “As the Constitutional Court hesitates to issue a ruling, the people's anger is growing, and the embers of insurrection are being reignited.”
Park warned regarding the possibility of the Constitutional Court dismissing the impeachment trial, stating, “If Yoon Suk-yeol is given a pass, it would be a betrayal of the people's trust,” and added, “It would be a death sentence for the Constitution and a declaration of the destruction of the democratic republic.”
He emphasized that “Yoon Suk-yeol is an insurrectionist who attempted to reign over the Constitution and a destroyer of the Constitution who violated South Korean democracy,” asserting, “The only action the Constitutional Court can take as the guardian of the Constitution is to remove Yoon.”
He also listed the names of the Constitutional Court justices one by one, stating that the public is watching. Park said, “The justices of the Constitutional Court must respond to the call of history,” and added, “Every single justice, including Moon Hyung-bae, Lee Mi-sun, Kim Hyung-du, Jeong Jeong-mi, Jeong Hyung-sik, Kim Bok-hyung, Cho Han-chang, and Jeong Gye-seon, is being watched by the whole nation regarding their decisions.”
