The governments of South Korea and Japan discussed cooperation plans in the hydrogen industry. The two countries agreed to establish a 'private hydrogen supply chain and utilization cooperation platform' and to jointly develop methods for measuring greenhouse gas emissions during the process of producing clean hydrogen.
Choi Woo-hyuk, Director General of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and Ito Sadahiro, Director General of the Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Department of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, met on the 26th in Tokyo, Japan, to hold the '2nd Korea-Japan Hydrogen Cooperation Dialogue.' The dialogue was attended by 11 relevant agencies from both countries, in addition to government representatives.
In this dialogue, the two countries reviewed four working group areas of detailed cooperation agendas: ▲ development of a clean hydrogen supply chain ▲ carbon intensity and certification ▲ standards and criteria ▲ and safety.
Regarding the hydrogen supply chain cooperation, the two countries recognized the importance of the private sector's role and decided to establish and operate a 'Korea-Japan private hydrogen supply chain and utilization cooperation platform.' The platform will materialize cooperation through various channels, such as hosting Korea-Japan hydrogen seminars, focusing on clean hydrogen supply chains, hydrogen co-combustion power generation, and the expansion of hydrogen mobility.
In the field of carbon intensity and certification, they agreed to jointly develop methodologies for measuring greenhouse gas emissions during the production process of clean hydrogen.
In the field of standards and criteria, the two countries agreed to cooperate on international standardization efforts related to major hydrogen technologies. In the safety area, they decided to expand the sharing of hydrogen safety-related information and cases between the two countries.
Choi Woo-hyuk, the Director General of Hydrogen Economy Policy, said, 'Both Korea and Japan have significant common interests as leading countries and demand countries for clean hydrogen' and noted, 'We will continue to expand public-private cooperation to contribute to building and spreading the global hydrogen economy ecosystem.'
