Ruling party presidential candidates expressed their welcome on the 24th regarding the Constitutional Court's decision to reject the impeachment motion against Prime Minister Han Deok-soo.
Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo wrote on his Facebook on this day, “I thought it would be a trial based on partisan logic, but it was a trial faithful to constitutional logic, so I felt relieved,” adding, “I strongly request the Constitutional Court to quickly dismiss the impeachment trial against (President Yoon Suk-yeol) so that normal government operations can resume.”
Former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon wrote, “The impeachment motion against the Prime Minister was an indiscriminate and irresponsible act from the beginning,” stating, “Now, the impeachment motions against Democratic Party members, including Lee Jae-myung, have resulted in a total defeat.”
Han noted, “Lee and the Democratic Party should prostrate themselves and apologize to the public, stating that they will no longer seek further impeachments,” and he criticized, “The impeachment motion against Economy Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok should also be withdrawn immediately. If you bind the hands and feet of the Deputy Prime Minister while talking about people's livelihood and economic recovery, you will only earn the public's ridicule.”
Former People Power Party member Yoo Seung-min pointed out that the ruling on Prime Minister Han's impeachment trial was delayed, emphasizing that the dismissal opinion arose due to the issue of quorum for the impeachment voting.
Yoo expressed regret, stating, “In a situation where the country is in a total crisis regarding the economy, people's livelihood, and national security, it is very regrettable that the Constitutional Court did not make a swift decision regarding the unprecedented situation of a ‘proxy acting as a proxy,’” and he further noted, “Additionally, the acting president holds all the powers of the president, yet the part that states a simple majority vote is valid is difficult to understand under the Constitution, which requires a two-thirds majority for decisions regarding the president or under common legal sense.”
Yoo also emphasized, “Justices Jeong Hyung-sik and Jo Han-chang highlighting this point and dismissing the impeachment motion as improper holds significant meaning,” stating, “This issue should be rectified by the National Assembly through constitutional amendments in the future.”
