On the 21st, the five opposition parties, including the Democratic Party, will introduce a motion to impeach Acting President Choi Sang-mok, who also serves as Minister of Economy and Finance.
The five opposition parties announced that they would submit the impeachment motion for Acting President Choi at 2 p.m. that day at the National Assembly's bill office.
The Democratic Party stated that Acting President Choi's failure to appoint the candidate for Constitutional Court Justice Ma Eun-hyeok, as recommended by the National Assembly, constitutes a 'violation of the constitution' and that they would hold him accountable.
Park Chan-dae, the Democratic Party's floor leader, met with reporters after a meeting of the ruling and opposition floor leaders chaired by National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik the previous day and said, 'I issued an ultimatum to Acting President Choi to appoint candidate Ma by the 19th, but he did not do so,' adding, 'We will initiate the impeachment process.'
With the Democratic Party introducing the impeachment motion for Acting President Choi, this marks the 30th impeachment motion since the Yoon Suk-yeol administration took office.
