Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, met with Lee Jae-yong, chairman of Samsung Electronics, which was referred to by Choi Min-hee, a Democratic Party lawmaker aligned with Lee Jae-myung, as "a scene so shocking it was sexy."
On the 21st, Choi posted on Facebook alongside a photo of Lee and Lee holding hands, describing it as "a scene so shocking it was sexy," noting "the meeting of a twisted-arm boy who is the third generation of a chaebol, and a golden spoon from Samsung."
Choi noted, "Lee Jae-myung, Lee Jae-yong. Even fake news stories likening them to brothers, reminiscent of a movie, are circulating. It seems that the rise of '50,000 electronics' to '60,000 electronics' is an expression of expectations for this meeting," and added, "I believe that Lee Jae-myung will open a successful future for South Korea as 'the successful Jeon Tae-il.' Is it possible that buds are sprouting even in such thorny paths?"
A YouTube video reporting on the meeting the previous day included reactions from some supporters, suggesting that Samsung Electronics' share price recovered to 60,000 won during trading after the meeting between the two.
Earlier, on the previous day, Lee visited the Samsung Youth Software Academy (SSAFY) located in Gangnam, Seoul, to hold a field meeting to support youth employment. Lee Jae-yong personally welcomed Lee in the lobby on the first floor of the campus. This meeting marks the first between the two in four years since Lee's time as the governor of Gyeonggi Province.
In his opening remarks, Lee stated, "It is a pleasure to meet the chairman and an honor to visit Samsung. Corporations must thrive in order for the country to thrive, and when Samsung does well, those who have invested in Samsung also do well," he said. He continued, "The economic situation is very difficult, but I believe that Samsung will overcome it with its capabilities. It’s Samsung for everyone. I hope it continues to play the role of a locomotive for economic growth, as it has until now."
Lee Jae-yong said, "I sincerely welcome you and the Democratic Party lawmakers for visiting Samsung during your busy schedule," adding, "SSAFY has been pursuing the goal of investing in the future for the future of youth in Korea, away from simple social contributions, under the name of partnership. I truly appreciate your visit for the youth."
