Kweon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, criticized the Democratic Party on the 20th for considering the impeachment motion against Choi Sang-mok, the acting president and Minister of Economy and Finance, saying it was a "impeachment arrival certificate."
During an emergency meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Kweon noted, "The Democratic Party was fiddling with the impeachment card again, pressuring Acting Choi during the late-night general meeting on the day of Representative Lee Jae-myung's threatening remarks. It is essentially an act of intimidation regarding the impeachment motion," and pointed out, "They are showing an impeachment arrival certificate by alluding not only to the 29th impeachment but even a 30th. The Democratic Party decided to leave the decision on whether to push for the impeachment of Acting Choi to its leadership after the results of the previous day's general meeting.
He criticized, "Is it not enough to just impeach? They are even inciting terror. The sadistic behavior of the political group has reached its peak," adding that the Democratic Party's ideology is not 'well-being' but 'sadism.' This statement was aimed at Lee, who had previously criticized the delay in appointing the constitutional candidate for the acting minister, saying, "Acting Choi can be arrested by anyone who sees him as a derelict in duty from this moment on, so I hope he stays cautious."
Kweon further questioned, "The Democratic Party excused (Lee's) extreme remarks with the absurd argument of wanting to show 'the will to protect the Constitution.' Where in the Constitution of the Republic of Korea is it specified to instigate terror privately?"
Kwon Young-se, the Chairperson of the Emergency Response Committee, also criticized Lee's 'be cautious' remark, saying, "There have been a series of deaths surrounding Lee, so this is a chilling statement that cannot be dismissed as a joke."
He said, "Lee has issued an arrest warrant under the pretext of the Lee Jae-myung's policy. He has become the police chief himself, claiming that anyone can arrest at will, and even issued a mobilization order for the party's supporters. Democratic Party members posted photos of the acting minister on social media, calling him a derelict in duty and publicly insulting him, saying, 'We have arrested the police several times at the scene,' inciting extreme supporters. This is indeed instigating insurrection and promoting terrorism," adding, "If that logic is applied, Lee, who is facing 12 charges in 8 cases and has committed criminal threats, is the number one target for arrest."
Chairperson Kwon stated regarding the Democratic Party's movement to push for the impeachment of Acting Choi, "As it became evident that the essence of the insurrection was revealed in the presidential impeachment trial and it was deemed difficult to achieve the results they speak of, they are attempting to change the situation by bringing in Ma Eun-hyeok, a former member of the Peoples' Solidarity and a member of the Our Law Research Association."
He also claimed, "As the presidential impeachment trial and the second trial ruling of Lee Jae-myung are approaching, they are trying to build a justification to take to the streets against the impeachment result and their trial outcome."
He urged, "Lee must repent for his remarks inciting terror in front of the public and immediately cease the threats against Acting Choi and the Constitutional Court." He warned, "If someone follows Lee's incitement and any unfortunate event occurs, they will have to bear all the political and legal responsibilities."
Shin Dong-wook, the chief spokesperson, met with reporters after the meeting and stated, "(Lee's remarks) are a threat against Acting Choi, but they can also exert significant psychological pressure on the Constitutional Court justices and those involved in Lee's trial. Such remarks should never be made," adding that, "There should be some form of clarification from Lee himself regarding this issue."
