On the 19th, the Ministries of National Defense of South Korea and Malaysia held the 2nd defense policy dialogue at the Ministry of National Defense building in Yongsan, Seoul, to assess the regional security situation and discuss ways to enhance defense and military cooperation between the two countries.
The defense policy dialogue between the two countries is a regular consultative body that was established in January of last year. The South Korean delegation was led by Lee Seung-beom, the international policy director of the Ministry of National Defense, while the Malaysian delegation was headed by Mohd Yani, the deputy secretary-general for policy at the Ministry of National Defense.

Both sides expressed concerns about the negative impact of the North Korean military's deployment to the Ukraine war on the Korean Peninsula and regional security, and the Malaysian side expressed support for condemning North Korea's nuclear and missile programs and various provocative actions. They also agreed to continue working together to ensure the faithful implementation of United Nations sanctions against North Korea and the complete denuclearization of North Korea.
Additionally, both sides assessed that defense exchange and cooperation between the two countries rapidly advanced with the export of the domestically produced light attack aircraft FA-50 in 2023. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in advanced science and technology, maritime security, and defense and military supply cooperation.
The 3rd meeting will be held next year in Malaysia.
