The Democratic Party held an emergency general meeting on the 19th to discuss whether to proceed with the impeachment of acting President Choi Sang-mok, but did not reach a conclusion. The party decided to delegate the final decision to its leadership.
Democratic Party floor spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung spoke with reporters after the general meeting held that night at the National Assembly.
Kang noted, “There were various discussions on the possibility of impeaching Acting President Choi and what other responses could be if we choose a method other than impeachment,” adding, “We will gather all opinions and decide on our course of action in the upcoming leadership meeting.”
It is reported that there were both pros and cons regarding the impeachment issue of Acting President Choi at the general meeting.
The party's leadership plans to hold a late-night meeting after the general meeting concludes.
Earlier, the Democratic Party indicated that not appointing Constitutional Court nominee Ma Eun-hyuk would constitute a dereliction of duty, hinting at the possibility of impeaching Acting President Choi.
