Park Chan-dae, the ruling Democratic Party of Korea's floor leader, said regarding the People Power Party's position that it would accept the impeachment trial against President Yoon Suk-yeol, "It's a very natural thing."
Park noted this during a meeting with reporters at the "Easter Preparation Prayer Meeting for the Nation and People" held at the Full Gospel Church in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 16th, saying, "Respecting the Constitutional Court's judgment is something a politician with a commitment to uphold the Constitution would naturally do in a rule of law state."
Kweon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, earlier stated, "The official position of the party is to accept the Constitutional Court's judgment," adding, "The Democratic Party should also send a message affirming its acceptance of the Constitutional Court's decision."
Park remarked, "I need to ask if the nominee for constitutional judge, Ma Eun-hyeok, will be appointed, and whether the ruling party lawmakers who insisted on dismantling the Constitutional Court will also be disciplined," adding, "While I understand that the People Power Party lawmakers somewhat represent the government's position, it is inappropriate to deny 'upholding the Constitution' as a member of the legislative body."
He added, "We must apologize to the people for leaving unchecked those lawmakers who called for destroying the Constitutional Court."
In response to suggestions that the People Power Party's statements lack sincerity, he said, "We'll have to see whether they are acting on it."
Hwang Jeong-a, the Spokesperson of the Democratic Party of Korea, also criticized during an afternoon written briefing, "Is it declaring acceptance while inciting disobedience? It's a lie that would make even Pinocchio cry."
Hwang criticized, "The public is clearly watching as they plot to block the appointment of Judge Ma Eun-hyeok, hold a 24-hour relay protest against impeachment in front of the Constitutional Court, and overtly threaten the court by every possible means," adding, "Do you have a conscience to make such lies?"
